Poor steel condition can cause tooling and time-to-market delays
We find that poor steel condition is a design issue that’s not often thought of in injection molding. Custom part complexities can stress steel that is not rigid enough to hold its form causing breaks. The more complex the injection molded part with thin wall thicknesses and higher pressure fills, the more stress will be placed on the tool itself. The solution is to validate your injection molded part design with a Tooling Design Engineer prior to first shots. Additional time spent on thinking through manufacturability is worth the output from first shots through initial part runs and meeting time-to-market deadlines.
